Last Saturday 11 February at Irehom, Can Casassaies, we presented Fundació Emprius to the advisory council and the territory’s ambassadors. After a year and nine months of motivated work, with enthusiasm, commitment and so much love, we left our communities to experience the long-awaited moment of putting into action a tool that would let us grow within the large community family we are.

The day was organised with thoughtful, varied spaces that combined the warmth of conversation in a circle, the aroma of paella prepared by the good people of Irehom, refreshments with cheese from the Gavarresa, a closing that honoured the sun’s energy and the seeds that nourish us, and lunch outdoors at small tables to extend conversations and share experiences.

It was a day to get to know one another and share what has driven us to create Emprius. Facing climate emergency, biodiversity loss, reduced resource access and the systemic crisis we find ourselves in, we’re already acting through different collectives and spaces. Now we’re deploying a new tool: Fundació Emprius. We want the Foundation to help us move towards a community-based and communal model, one that supports building an organised rural movement, ensuring resource redistribution and biodiversity regeneration, within a framework of degrowth with social justice.

That same day, after presenting Emprius, we spent time in dialogue with advisory council members and ambassadors. In the conversation we discussed the Foundation’s potential, shared our feelings, added ideas and better understood the roles each of us might play. There were contributions in many directions — we’ll highlight some: “Emprius could be a strategic tool for resisting aggressive mega-projects on the land”; “Have you thought about the Foundation protecting collective property?”; “We’re in a moment of conflict over commons handed over at the start of the last century, like the hydroelectric schemes in the Pallars — what could Emprius’s role be?”; “I see huge potential in the networks we have as an umbrella for political action”; “Thank you for being there and inviting us to the dream. Let’s recognise how big this is and celebrate it”; “If we have the privilege to dream big, we have the duty to dream big”; “It’s important to learn from other experiences”; “…..”.

It was a beautiful day that helped us put faces to the big family we are and see what we might become. We left energised to face the months ahead as we travel across different parts of Catalonia in what we’ve called the *tour of the commons.* Once we’ve made our first land acquisitions and stewardship agreements and set up shared tools, the *tour* will connect with a public media launch in June.

We’ll combine these actions with a membership campaign, fundraising and donor outreach, creating protocols or mechanisms to monitor transferred assets, prospecting for land and property we might acquire, and deepening bilateral meetings with key actors.
