Usnea RP: “The commons is not only the goal, but also the path”

Usnea RP, winners of the Emprius Prize (Premi Emprius) 2024 with the proposal “Fem cumó. Passat, present i futur del comunal a Sapeira i a la vall de la Terreta” (“Doing cumó: past, present and future of the commons in Sapeira and the Terreta valley”). In November they will present the documentary they have been making, based on the winning proposal.

“From the start we were clear that, for us, the commons is not only the goal, but also the path. That’s why we set up a participatory action research project: as we gather information, we are also generating debate and communal practice. Interviews with neighbours, livestock farmers, representatives of the administration and experts in the valley’s history and communalism sit alongside open activities such as talks, workshops and, naturally, cumós — the collective work days that still have a life of their own in Sapeira.”
